"basically must be informed by any reader' - was this a typo for "inferred"?

One might like to think that when one gets fired for exposing himself, a reporter maybe would be tempted to confirm whether there might be any other reason for the termination. But one would be wrong.

And this laziness or disregard or desire to suck up to the powerful has actually harmed the nation and continues to do so.
